The New Bridge

On the Tour

After a whopping 30 miles of driving on Friday in the Grand Canyon it was time on Saturday to move on. Saturday's drive from Grand Canyon, Arizona to Las Vegas/Henderson, Nevada was 340 miles and about 4.5 hours. (In case you're wondering, I'm not keeping up with this, I ask Jeff because he is.)

We stopped at Hoover Dam and of course crossed the "new" bridge just opened there. Jeff took Scott and Sarah Kelly on a dam tour (no pun intended:) and powe plant as well as the visitor's center. Being very expensive, I took the others and we walked across the dam and went up and down the escalator several times. This was so much more fun for the little ones than a tour that Jeff said they would not have understood. We went into the visitor's center and there was a bench outside of the security area. It was nice and cool there and they enjoyed watching all the people coming through security. I enjoyed not being in 94 degree heat. After a few minutes they started asking me all kinds of questions about security. And of course the questions and answers involved weapon talk. The security guards weren't terribly busy so one in particular kept coming over to chat. They must have asked him 1001 questions which he seemed glad to answer. When it was time to move on (and go back up the escalator) and meet the rest of the family, Drew and Harris decided they wanted to go through security just for fun. I really did not want this hassle. I had keys, cell phone, sunglasses, a baby in a sling, etc.... I finally said, "No, I do not want to take the baby out." Well if you've ever been through security anywhere you know they have these bins or baskets for your stuff to go through x-ray. Jackson, who was being very quiet during all of this piped up after I made this statement about not wanting to take the baby out of the sling, saying, "Mommy do you have to put the baby in the basket?" It was definitely time to go.
