What Maine is Known For

Blueberries Galore!  Maine produces 93% of the nation's blueberries.
These berries were HUGE!  They are not the wild ones like we have been picking around the camp.  These are cultivated high bushes on a farm we went to.  It's more expensive to pick in Maine than in SC.  So, we think we'll go back to the wild small ones at the camp.  But these beauties were delicious; a gallon lasted us about 5 hours!

Maine is known for "camps" by the lake

Beautiful scenery and kayaks

Large Boulders are all over the state

Bald Eagles; we have enjoyed watching "ours"

Beautiful Babies, yes, in Maine and SC!

Old General Stores from the 1850s

Dock Sitting Relaxing Mama, this is my small slice of summer!

Gorgeous Sunsets

Maine is known for:  Wild Indians (yes there were Indians here at one time) climbing on those ubiquitous Maine Boulders.

Camps by the Lake

Scenery

Small Town Libraries

Barns attached to Houses
This is actually a "small" pile of wood compared to some we've seen; getting a head start on a cold snowy winter.

Outhouses?  Yes, the real deal; this was the one used by this cabin (camp) when it was first built.  The water was brought up from the lake for washing, no electricity, and this was the bathroom.  This mama is glad that indoor plumbing, running water, and electricity have been added.

This one was a 2 seater.

And Maine has.....FRIENDS!
Jeff and I remarked to each other that you probably can't find better friends than Perry and Kim Jackson.  We feel so at home with them.

Goodbye Maine!  I will miss my twice daily excursions in the kayak.

Thursday, August 1, 2013 - Sunset

I know I am "sunset" happy with pictures.  I am still only posting a few; we have seen so many beautiful sunsets and the sky changes every few minutes, it is so amazing.  Tonight, we had a couple of kayakers (Daddy (JB) and one of the children) setting out for a nearby island and some of us paddled along shore in a canoe. Scott was gracious enough to stay with the baby and come down to the dock and take some pictures.  It's been a long time since I've seen such gorgeous views.

A little more on the story - Kim Jackson's Blog Post about our afternoon, Thursday, August 1, 2013

I want to share my friend, Kim's post about our afternoon.  She captured some awesome pictures of all the children together, except for the baby.  There are some great "tubing" shots too.  I'm glad we left her house before the toilet incident!  Can't blame that on the Rowe Tribe!

Fun at the Jackson's - Wednesday, July 31, 2013

Scott helping Mrs. Jackson (Senior) put gas in the boat so we can all have fun.
Hanging out with the baby on the swing while others are tubing and riding in the boat.
Kim Jackson still has it!  One ski!  She's good.
 Scott goes skiing again today.
Now it's Jenny's turn to hang out with the baby.
 Now it's Parker's turn!
Elizabeth and Drew on the tubes ready to go!

Look Mom!  No Hands!
Bouncing along the waves!

Scott is enjoying watching them too!

Now it's Drew and Katie's turn.
Harris is up this time with Katie.

Some of the most fun I have had was riding in the boat watching the "tubers".   It is hilarious to see them hang on while bumping over waves, colliding into each other, becoming airborne, and watching them laugh.  Harris and Drew particularly were the daredevils; they wanted to go faster and faster and hit bigger and bigger waves.  When we go back to our place, we swim, kayak, and canoe, and eat supper, then swim some more.  Something tells me these young ones won't have any trouble at all going to sleep tonight!

Tuesday, July 30, 2013 - Sunset at the Lake

Always someone canoeing, kayaking, or swimming until the sun goes down.
